Hymenostilbe sp. |
This possible Hymenostilbe species is growing from a wasp. The white-tipped growth emanating from between the head and thorax of the wasp is called a stroma and serves a reproductive purpose (the inside of the wasp has been consumed and it is time to move on). The wasp was within a small cavity of a rotting log. The stroma grew from the wasp and then penetrated a 4-5 mm layer of wood before emerging from the log. Stroma is 28mm long. |
