Lacrymaria lacrymabunda |
Formerly known as Lacrymaria velutina and Psathyrella velutina. Also, at one time or another, it was placed in Agaricus, Coprinus and Hypholoma. I hope the mycologists are happy where it is now in Lacrymaria, I'm getting dizzy. |
Lacrymaria lacrymabunda produces an almost black spore print and the dark brown gills are molted. The partial veil leaves a ring. or annulus, on the upper stem. The cap fibrils fade with age and weather conditions, becoming almost bald (smooth). |
See Lacrymaria velutina at MushroomExpert.com for full description. |
Although fairly common, Lacrymaria lacrymabunda is fun to find and has a lot of neat characteristics. The cap of fresh, young specimens exhibit fine matted hairs called fibrils, and is described technically as appressed-fibrillose. Also, note the spore ladened ring-zone on the stem. |
