Marasmiellus luxurians |
Known forever as Gymnopus luxurians; but it's not that at all, so says the DNA. Although, even after a change in name, the mushroom remains the same. Marasmiellus luxurians is found growing from the ground in association with wood or woody debris. White spore print. The images above show the mushroom growing from wood chips, a lawn where a tree had been cut down and at the base of a maple tree, all in an urban setting. |
This specimen of Marasmiellus luxurians was found in the woods with only the cap exposed through the leaves on the forest floor. Note white mycelium and rhizomorphs at base of stem. |
