The eyelash cup. This tiny sac fungus often grows in clusters on well rotted wood, also on soil. Found throughout the mushroom season. There are many species of Scutellinia that are separated by microscopic details. |
The bare upper surface is where spores are produced. The outer surface is covered with fine hairs that probably provide protection from debris and/or insects. |
